Kindergarten and 1st Grade Judaic Studies
¨ Torah – Studying the Book of B’reishit (Genesis), students learn they are part of the ongoing story of Torah and the Jewish people
¨ Avodah (“work” to find sacred connections to God, community and self) – Learning about Jewish holiday observance and celebrations, students discover the beauty and order of sacred time and their place in the Jewish story
¨ G’milut Chasadim (acts of loving kindness) – Performing acts of g’milut chasadim, students learn how they can improve their world by saying “I’m sorry”, forgiving others, giving tzedakah, being kind, taking turns, including others, taking care of the earth
Our Kindergarten/1st Grade Parent Connection Reading Program enables parents to function as Jewish educators at home. By students bringing home and reading Jewish, age-appropriate books with parents, conversations about being Jewish become part of everyday life. Our Parent Connection library includes current, entertaining and educational children’s books which explore all aspects of Jewish life.
Kindergarten and 1st Grade Hebrew Studies
Hebrew language and prayer are introduced orally as appropriate for Kindergarten and 1st Grade students. Hebrew vocabulary focuses on words associated with the Jewish holidays. Prayers learned include the Shabbat blessings over candles, wine and challah as well as the Sh’ma and Shehecheyanu.
