Tikkun (Social Action)

From its inception, B'nai Tzedek has endeavored to put into action the words "Tzedek, Tzedek Tirdof" (Justice, Justice Shall You Pursue)  through activities within our synagogue and throughout the community. There are  mitzvah opportunities for everyone, from the youngest preschooler to adults.

Please, please get involved. Social Action is a large part of  what makes us Jewish; it ties us to our community and gives us the opportunity  to practice mitzvot on an ongoing basis. We are looking for interested parties  to join our committee to help organize and run specific events. If  you have a passion for doing good work for the less fortunate in our society,  this is the place for you! Please let us know if you are interested.

Yom Kippur Food Drive and Year-round Food Collection

Feeding the hungry on a day we fast has become a Yom Kippur tradition at Congregation B'nai Tzedek.  Everyone who attends our High Holy Day services is asked to bring canned or boxed goods to help replenish the food pantry of Families Forward.  On a year-round basis, we collect canned and boxed food in the wooden cabinet found in the lobby for Share Ourselves.  These organizations are an important source of food for Orange County's needy.

Annual Blood Drive

B’nai Tzedek’s Social Action Committee, in cooperation with the American Red Cross, hold an annual blood drive at Congregation B'nai Tzedek.
Those who are able to participate are truly giving the gift of life. It  takes about 30 minutes to donate, and those over the age of 18 are eligible.
As many donations as possible are needed each year as the Red Cross has a great need for blood. Consider donating, even if you never have before. It  takes so little time and helps so many people. • Donate while the kids are in Religious School • Donate on your way to the bagel shop • Donate on  your way to visit a friend (better yet, have your friend meet you at the  synagogue and donate together!) • Donate just because it’s a mitzvah!
Contact the Shelli Halprin for more information.
