Cirriculum Overview

Congregation B’nai Tzedek utilizes an innovative core Judaica curriculum focusing on Torah, Avodah (“work” to find sacred connections to God, community and self) and G’milut Chasadim (acts of loving kindness), lending itself to hands-on and experiential learning. Emphasis is placed on:

  • Understanding the messages of Torah and their relevancy to today
  • Discovering ways to feel close to God
  • Realizing how behavior affects relationships
  • Learning to repair the world through acts of loving kindness and the giving of tzedakah

The curriculum is designed for student learning beyond classroom activities, establishing the basis for a lifetime of Jewish learning and living.

In addition to the core curriculum, our students participate in a brief tefillah (prayer) service each week that is led by Rabbi Young and April Akiva.

Monthly enrichment activities include Israeli dancing and Jewish music.

Our Hebrew curriculum utilizes a five year Hebrew prayer book series. Students learn to:

¨      Read fluently from a siddur

¨      Translate key prayer words

¨      Understand the theme of prayers and their underlying Jewish value(s)

¨      Participate comfortably in any prayer service

¨      Write, utilizing Hebrew script
