Student Cantor Lizzie Weiss

Cantor Ecker

As a student Cantor, Lizzie Weiss joined Congregation B’nai Tzedek July 1, 2011. She graduated University of California, Irvine with a bachelor’s degree in musical theatre and for three years toured nationally with High School Musical originating the role of Martha Cox. Tiring of touring and dedicated to Judaism, it seems to have been a natural change in course for her to go into cantorial studies at the Academy of Jewish Religion in Los Angeles considering she was: – raised and involved at Temple Emanuel in Beverly Hills from an early age, – a Camp Swig/Newman alumna, – a member of Temple Emanuel’s professional choir, – a soloist at Emanuel’s High Holy Day services, – a longtime vocal student/mentee of Cantor Perryne Anker and Cantor Yonah Kliger – a Cantorial Soloist at Temple Emanuel for several years, – from a family where her uncle and older brother are rabbis, – one in a set of musically talented triplets. Lizzie’s triplet sister is a cantorial student in New York. A second-year cantorial student, Lizzie encourages members to sing and helps them do that by singing in a range where the congregation can sing with her. In an effort to bring new melodies and modern Jewish composers to the congregants of CBT, Lizzie has created a new music page where people can listen and learn. She hope to encourage everyone to sing at services. Visit this link to hear works by Doug Cotler, Dan Nichols and More! When Lizzie is not on the bimah or in classes, she coaches kids aspiring to the stage or screen and designs websites – especially for those “in the business”.
